Women's Celebration

Well, I did it! I "strolled" a 5k! I am so happy for myself! I've never done an event like this, so for me, it was a big deal. When I woke up at 6:30 am there was lightning. I was so surprised. So I continued to get ready, and get Aryk ready. We switched around stroller ideas, and added a couple layers. I asked Jeff to watch the news, to see if they were going to cancel or postpone, but no... this event had 12,000 women registered! So, being the largest 5k run, walk, or stroll in the nation, women continued to celebrate, in the rain.

We were able to sit under a covered bus stop, while we waited for the race to start. I forgot the camera! I couldn't believe it. These next few photos were taken with my phone. I asked the mom next to me to take a picture of Aryk and I before the race started. I Look goofy in this picture. Between the early hour, the rain, and the camera, what can you expect?

Aryk and I crossed the finish line 1 hour 16 minutes after the race started. We didn't get to start until 15 minutes into the race, so I figure we walked the 3.1 miles in about one hour. I was excited with that time! Yeah for us! Aryk stayed dry, warm, and slept most of the time. I wore Jeff's waterproof jacket over my jacket. My jacket had a hood. The only wet thing on me was my hood and hands. The stroller and the blanket over the stroller were soaked. But otherwise, we did great! I checked KTVB's website to watch us on the finish line camera, but they cut out 2 minutes of the 1:15-1:20 piece. And those first two minutes happen to be the time I was crossing the finishing line. So you can't even see me cross the finish line. I was bummed about that! By the time we made it off the shuttle, back at the car, the rain had stopped and it was warm. Go figure. Here is a photo Jeff took, when Aryk and I returned home. I know I still look goofy. Oh well, I completed a 5k, in the rain!

I celebrated the generous and kind women of this valley (and beyond), my health, my families health, and just feeling good about myself. I can't wait to celebrate again next year! What will you celebrate? Come celebrate with me! Check out more at http://www.ktvb.com/news/celebration08/ or www.celebrateall.org .

Way to go! It sounds like quite the adventure with a baby, rain, and a lot of women! It also sounds like you have a really good baby too! :O)

Woohoo! I can't believe I didn't see you. I crossed at 1:18. It was really neat to see all of those women walking.

I'm totally with ya for next year! I love walking it. You're awesome for braving the storm. I'm glad little Aryk was such a good boy for you. PS I love Aryk's shoes. Super cute!
